Juanita Springs Ranch is a stunning real estate listing located in a picturesque setting. This property offers a unique blend of luxury and comfort, perfect for those seeking a tranquil lifestyle.
Hello and welcome to Juanita Springs Ranch and Oasis. My name is Jimmy Wike and I've had the pleasure of Owning and Caretaking this desert oasis since 1978. Juanita Springs is a 160 acre parcel located in Southern Nevada. It's approximately 85 miles NE of Las Vegas and 20 miles S of Mesquite NV. It's what's called a pocket ranch as it's surrounded by Federal land, and with the closest neighbor being 7-8 miles away there's plenty of privacy if that's what you desire. There is paved road access that goes to and through a portion of the property, and 2 miles past Juanita Springs is the entrance to Gold Butte National Monument, one of the nation's newest national treasures. Juanita Springs is a rare and unusually unique piece of property due to the springs, the flora, and the fauna that habituate the property in an otherwise dry and inhospitable landscape.
One of the most striking features of the property are the massive Fan Palms (Washingtonia Filifera) that are present. A friend of mine who was a regional director for the Dept of Agriculture in LV told me that Juanita Springs was the northernmost place where these palms proliferated naturally. They provide shade, cover, and nesting sites for a number of different wildlife species. Additionally, they produce copious amounts of small fruit in the fall that provide sustenance for that wide variety of wildlife.
And wildlife there is. Everything that lives in the Mojave Desert is represented here along with numerous transients from other eco-zones. For me personally, I've always most enjoyed the numerous species of birds that frequent the property. Along with the year around residents, there are birds that are seasonally present, some in the hotter months and some in the cooler months. There are also migratory transients that stop over to rest and get water. Some of my favorites are the Hummingbirds, Orioles, and Western Tanagers that breed and raise their young here during the Spring and Summer. There are also different varieties of Towhees, Finch's, Woodpeckers, Sparrows, Hawks and Owls, again some seasonal and others full time. Additionally, there are hundreds of Quail scurrying around the property.
When I first purchased the property, I had no horticultural experience and I tried planting a variety of plants and trees, many of which did not survive due to their unsuitability to adapt to a desert eco system. I soon decided that everything planted must be heat and drought tolerant, plus beneficial to the birds and other wildlife that naturally exists in this environment. There are over 600 drought tolerant trees, bush's and shrubs that are watered, but sans watering will, with minor exception, still survive on whatever rainfall occurs in any given year. There are also a similar number of palms, cottonwoods, and native mesquites that require no watering due to their close proximity to the springs and the ground water that flows underneath the surface. All of this flora provides not only an attractant for wildlife, but as shade and a relief for people during the warmer months.
So what would you do with this unique and special property? Well, you'd have to use your imagination. It would make for a great personal Family Estate. There is no public power, but there's plenty of sun and seasonal breeze's to harness green energy, or you could use a generator. Among other things it would also be ideal for a Horse Ranch, a Youth Camp, a Religious Retreat, or a Nature Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary. The possibilities are endless, but properties like this in So Nevada are not. This is a rare piece of property that has become available for the first time in over 45 years, and I would encourage everyone who may be interested to quickly take a look and envision how they would incorporate Juanita Springs into their dreams for the future.
